The AI bookkeeper
You don't need a bookkeeper anymore.
Slashbooks is an AI bookkeeper that plugs into the AI assistant you already use. It keeps your books in the background, asks you only when it needs an answer, and keeps everything ready for tax time.
- Free during the beta
- Read-only bank access
- Your accountant gets their own login
Your AI's newest skill
Your AI agent does your bookkeeping now.
Connect Slashbooks to your personal AI assistant once. Then ask it what you spent, answer the questions your books raise, and send it your receipts. Slashbooks keeps the ledger, checks every account against the bank, and asks you before a month is published.
youWhat did I spend on software in September?
claude$4,210, from your Slashbooks profit and loss. Figma, Notion, and Google Workspace are the largest.

Why Slashbooks
You don't need more software. You need the books done.

About
Why I built Slashbooks.
I'm Gil Hildebrand, a software engineer. I founded Gilded, an accounting software company, and later sold it. I built Slashbooks for my own three businesses because I wanted current books without the manual bookkeeping. It connects to the AI assistant you already use. The AI does the busywork, an accounting engine does the math, and the code is open source. Now I run Slashbooks Cloud to make that workflow available to other businesses and accounting firms. I answer support myself.
How it works
It works like a bookkeeper, not like software.
-
01
Connect your accounts
Link your bank, cards, and Stripe. Then turn Slashbooks on.
-
02
Slashbooks does the books
Every transaction recorded, every receipt matched, every account checked.
-
03
Answer when it asks
When it can't tell what a payment was for, it asks. Reply once, and it remembers.
-
04
Your numbers stay current
Income, spending, and cash, always up to date. Your accountant sees the same books.
For accounting and tax firms
Take on more bookkeeping clients with the team you have.
Security
Your books are checked. Your data is protected.
Done, and checked.
An accounting engine, not the AI, does the math. Every account is checked against its bank statement.
- Read-only bank and Stripe access. Slashbooks cannot move money.
- Your bank login stays with your bank. Slashbooks never sees it.
- Encrypted in transit and at rest with HTTPS and AES-256.
- Each company's data is kept apart. People see only the books they are invited to.
- 2-step sign-in and passkeys. Encrypted backups, with tested restores.
- Preparing for SOC 2. We run on Cloudflare, which has SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001.
How AI is used in Slashbooks
The AI reads your records and proposes entries and fixes. The accounting engine, not the AI, does the math and checks every number. Slashbooks keeps a record of what changed, when, and who made it.
Is it a fit?
We would rather tell you now.
A good fit if…
- You run a US small business, or a firm that serves them. Books are cash basis by default. Accrual books are available for services and SaaS businesses, one company in US dollars.
- Your money moves through bank accounts, cards, Stripe, or Mercury.
- Your books are behind, or you pay a bookkeeper to keep them current.
- You want an accountant to review the work.
Not a fit yet if…
- You need payroll processing or inventory accounting.
- You want software to replace your accountant. Slashbooks prepares the books, and a professional still reviews them.
Questions
Common questions
How much does it cost?
Nothing during the beta. We will give you at least 30 days' notice before any charge starts.
What is left for me to do?
You connect your accounts once. After that, you answer a question when Slashbooks can't tell what a payment was for. You do not categorize transactions or build reports.
Can the AI make mistakes?
Yes, so Slashbooks checks its own work. An accounting engine, not the AI, does the math, and each account is checked against its bank statement. When Slashbooks is not sure, it asks you. If you work with an accountant, they review the books before each month is published.
My books are months behind. Can Slashbooks catch them up?
Yes. Connect your accounts or upload your bank statements, and Slashbooks works through the backlog month by month. It tells you which statements are missing.
Who can see my financial data?
You, the people you invite, and the firm you add as your accountant. Slashbooks staff see it only for a support request or an incident. Nobody at Slashbooks or your firm gets your bank password.
Do you have SOC 2?
Not yet. We are preparing for a SOC 2 audit. Slashbooks runs on Cloudflare, which has a SOC 2 Type II report and ISO 27001 certification. See the security details.
What if I want to leave?
Export your reports and data as CSV and XLSX at any time. The engine is open source, so the same accounting rules also run on your own computer with the free Slashbooks plugin.
Do I need to know how to use AI tools?
No. Slashbooks works in the background and reaches you by email. You use the website to set up and to check your numbers. Connecting your own AI agent is optional.
How is this different from slashbooks.org?
slashbooks.org is the free, open-source plugin. Your books live on your computer and your own agent does the work. Slashbooks Cloud hosts the same engine for you and adds bank connections set up in the browser, automatic backups, and shared access for your accountant or firm.
Is this tax or accounting advice?
No. Slashbooks prepares the books. A qualified professional should review them before you rely on them for taxes or decisions.
